Marking a successful collaboration between innovative construction techniques and computer aided technology, the Nautilus II Table constructs the second attempt to imagining an organic-inspired furniture design. True to its inspiration, “Nautilus was born in an environment of artist freedom” – Newhaven-based designer Marc Fish expresses his love for perfection in this exceptional piece of furniture. Over 4000 individual pieces of walnut and sycamore veneer became part of a carefully layered construction, like perfection achieved by natural forces. This impetuous design was achieved with the help of the Golden Ratio: perfect proportions construct a splendid sequence of design lines swirling to re-create the shape of a nautilus shell. This logarithmic spiral pushed the designer to create a piece of furniture true to its inspiration: “The table has a texture which replicates the outside of the shell, creat ed by hand carving the fluted growth patterns. Inside a satin sheen has been created which runs smoothly round into the chambered area replicated in Japanese lace paper.”
